Finalement, Lyra n’a pas grand-chose à voir avec Sage. Acid Archives nous laissait entendre qu’il s’agissait du même groupe, mais en vérité, seul Chris Kelly en fait parti et à temps partiel seulement, n’officiant que sur deux titres (Feeling for You et Whisper in the Wind). Une confusion qui était permise, Lyra ayant lui aussi franchi les portes des McCullar Studios. Alors, qui y a-t-il derrière Lyra ? Six autres musiciens de grand talent (limite shredders), dont un prénommé Mitch Hembree ! (basse, Moog Taurus) frère présumé de Mark Hembree (pilier de Sage), qui d’ailleurs est mentionné en remerciements, ajoutant au flou général.

J’espérais secrètement un Sage 2, que le heavy rock/prog/métal qui était annoncé s’apparente à de la power pop musclée. Mais pour une fois, les descriptions des vendeurs étaient justes. Ce qu’elles n’ont peut-être pas révélé en revanche, est que Lyra - qui sait surprendre par ses changements de rythmes, la complexité de ses développements et ses guitares époustouflantes - est au heavy rock, ce que Sage est à la pop seventies. L’album se clôt par un instrumental prog de neuf minutes qui passe comme un éclair.

Contrary to what I though and what is written in Acid Archives, Lyra has little to do with Sage. There is only one musician from Sage, Chris Kelly and he plays and sings on only two cuts (Feeling for You and Whisper in the Wind). Nevertheless, Lyra has also recorded and mixed at the McCullar Studios. So, who is Lyra? Six other talented musicians, including Mitch Hembree (bass guitar & Taurus pedals) who is probably Mark Hembree’s brother - a pillar of Sage, mentioned in the acknowledgement for his “great wisdom and knowledge in the field of music”!

I hoped another Sage album, but this time the seller’s descriptions were close to reality (private hard rock LP with powerful guitar solos), except they forgot to say that Lyra is to heavy rock what Sage is to pop seventies. The ending track - somewhat unexpected - is a 9 minute long instrumental, very proggy and good too. Usually I don’t get hard rock - it seems that Lyra is the exception that proves the rule. Must be played loud!!
